Acorn | Versafit Fleece Socks | 2018 | $19 | 78g

After a particularly chilly night on a shoulder season trip I decided that I was going to get out of the cold feet game once and for all. Going cold turkey, so to speak. My usual hiking socks are either short or thin (or both) since my feet get so hot when I hike which means they don’t have much to offer in the way of warmth.

I’ve had the same pair of Acorn fleece slippers for as long as I can remember and they’re like little furnaces for your feet so I thought their manufacturer might have something to offer. Turns out, I was right: they make fleece socks. These things are roasty toasty, I wore them to bed on a winter backpack where it got down to 34F and my feet were the only part of me that never felt even one bit chilly. I’ve always had problems with cold feet during the winter but those days (nights?) are behind me – I bring these on every trip now.

I have but one complaint: they have almost zero stretch so getting your heel to slide into the heel of the sock can be a bit of a challenge compared to your typical sock. If they had just a teensy bit of stretch just above the heel they’d be perfect.
